Frequently Asked Questions

Using Smalltalkr

  1. What is 'ditto'?

Smalltalkr is a space where you can talk about anything in the world, no matter it is simply a gossip or a serious matter. While having a discussion with others, sometimes you want to nod or clap your hands to show that you agree or sympathize with another. You can simply do so by clicking on 'ditto' instead of writing a comment or a reply.

Therefore, the number of dittos represents the users' sympathy while the size of the Smalltalk gets bigger as the number of dittos increases. Make your Smalltalk bigger with dittos!

  2. What are 'Tags'?

Tags are one-word descriptors representing topics regarding Smalltalk. Any participant may freely add Tags to Smalltalk as well as the person posted the Smalltalk in the first place.

Tags you have added will be displayed in green blocks, and will be automatically registered to 'My tags'. In 'Users Page > History' section, the user's personal Tags Filters are displayed and you can easily find out about the fields of the user's interests. You may also filter Smalltalks with the user's 'Users Tag'.

  3. What is a Filter?

A Filter allows you to quickly view Smalltalks with the tags of your choice. If you choose/insert certain tags, Smalltalks get filtered and will display a Smalltalk list consisting of your tags you have chosen/inserted. Moreover, if you set up 'My Tags' that consist of tags of your interest, you may view a Smalltalk list of your own using 'All My Tags' Filter.

  4. Smalltalks/comments vary in size. What does this mean?

The font size of the Smalltalk/comment increases as the number of dittos increases. Users, therefore, may easily recognize popular Smalltalks/comments within the current page that many users have sympathized.

The font size of the Smalltalk/comment cannot be modified by the original user, but only in accordance with the number of dittos clicked by others.

  5. What is the use of vertical bars located on the left of comments?

When there are many replies to comments, in many cases it is hard to recognize which replies belong to which comment. Smalltalkr provides you the 'Comment Bar Highlight' function to help you with a comfortable discussion. If you click on a comment that you're about to read (Toggle-type), the bar located on the left gets highlighted helping you to focus and to see all related replies at a glance.

  6. How do I find other user's submitted Smalltalks, dittos and comments?

When a user posts a Smalltalk, clicks ditto or makes a comment, the activity is always bookmarked and stored within his/her profile. If your friends' profiles are linked with yours, you can simply click on the 'Friends' tab in your profile and trace your friends' Smalltalks, dittos, comments and all other activities. To view the profile of someone who is not yet a friend, just click on his/her icon anywhere on the page or enter the address directly, i.e., http://smalltalkr.com/username.

  7. What happens when I report someone's Smalltalk/Comment and report them as being abusive?

You may report a Smalltalk/comment that you find it is inappropriate or spam. The Smalltalk/comment that you have reported becomes hidden, and you may see it again when you click 'Show'. However, if the Smalltalk/comment gets reported by many users it won't be displayed anymore.

  8. Can I report a bug/problem/abuse?

If you encounter a bug or problem, please send us a bug report using our handy form. We really appreciate your help to improve the site. If you encounter an abuse of any sort, please report to us through the contact page. Please make sure you include the URL of the page where you have found the bug or abuse occurred and other pertinent details.

Posting new Smalltalk / Adding Comment

  1. I have submitted an Image/Video Clip URL(Embed code) to my Smalltalkr, but can't see a thumbnail. Why?

For images, only files with extensions, gif, jpeg and png are supported with thumbnails. For video clips, only those clips from sites that Smalltalkr supports [YouTube, Google Video, MSN Live, MetaCafe, Flickr, Revver, Vidiac, Yahoo US (Embed code only)] may be displayed with thumbnails.

  2. I submitted a new Smalltalk and now it's disappeared. What has happened?

New submissions stay in the Recent Section for between 12-24 hours, depending on the popularity of the topic. After 12-24 hours, if the story has not promoted to the site (does not become Popular), it falls out of the queue.

  3. Can I submit non-English contents?

    Sure.

  4. Can I submit pornographic contents?

Any submission of pornographic contents will result in an immediate ban and/or account deletion. Moreover, while nudity is not necessarily pornography, it still violates our Terms of Service. A good rule of thumb: if there is nudity, it is probably not a good idea to submit the content. More often than not, it will result an account ban.

  5. A user insulted me. What can I do?

At first, you need to think if you have insulted or provoke the user first. If you didn't do anything bad, make sure you send us the Smalltalk URL, Smalltalkr username and/or the direct link to the offending comment on Smalltalkr.
